Northwestern NFL Roundup: Week 12

WNUR’s Ari Ross (@aross50) recaps the Week 12 action for Northwestern Wildcats football alumni in the National Football League.

Northwestern has eight football alumni currently on NFL active rosters.

Here’s how they did this week in the NFL:

Offensive Players

Jeremy Ebert, Wide Receiver, Jacksonville Jaguars (Northwestern Class of 2012):

The Jaguars signed Ebert to the active roster Saturday. Backup wide receiver in the Jaguars 13-6 win over the Houston Texans.

Zach Strief, Offensive Tackle, New Orleans Saints (Northwestern Class of 2006)

Starting offensive tackle in the Saints 17-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Defensive Players

Corey Wootton, Defensive End, Chicago Bears (Northwestern Class of 2010):

Two tackles (2 solo) in the Bears 42-21 loss to the St. Louis Rams

Corbin Bryant, Defensive Tackle, Buffalo Bills (Northwestern Class of 2010)

The Bills are on a bye this week.

Barry Cofield, Nose Tackle, Washington Redskins (Northwestern Class of 2006)

Three tackles (2 solo) and one tackle for a loss in the Redskins 27-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Nick Roach, Linebacker, Oakland Raiders (Northwestern Class of 2007)

10 tackles (7 solo), one tackle for a loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and one quarterback hit in the Raiders 23-19 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Sherrick McManis, Cornerback, Chicago Bears (Northwestern Class of 2010)

One tackle (1 solo) in the Bears 42-21 loss to the Rams

Marquice Cole, Cornerback, New England Patriots (Northwestern Class of 2007)

One tackle (1 solo) in the Patriots 34-31 overtime win over the Denver Broncos.

Northwestern NFL Player of the Week:

Nick Roach. Roach had 10 tackles (7 solo), one tackle for a loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and one quarterback hit in the Raiders 23-19 loss to the Titans. For the season the middle linebacker has 78 tackles (55 solo), 3.5 sacks, four tackles for a loss of 10 yards, two forced fumbles, one interception and two passes defended. For his career Roach has 312 tackles (232 solo), 7.0 sacks, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one interception, 16 passes defended and 24 tackles for a loss of 70 yards. Roach went to Milwaukee Lutheran High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. In 2002, his senior year, Roach was first-team all state, and AP all-state honorable mention. Roach played on both sides of the ball, playing running back and wide receiver on offense and linebacker on defense.
