Northwestern Pro Basketball Recap: Week of Jan. 21

WNUR’s Ari Ross (@aross50) recaps the past week and season so far for former Northwestern basketball players in the pros.

While Northwestern has no alumni playing in the NBA, there are five alums playing either in the NBA D-League or overseas.

Here’s how they preformed this past week in their respective leagues:

Reggie Hearn, G, Idaho Stampede, NBA Development League, Northwestern Class of 2013
Jan 18: 19 points on 6 of 11 shooting (2 of 5 3PT), six rebounds and two steals in a win over the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Season Averages: 9.57 PPG (.389 FG%), 5.00 RPG, 1.14 APG, 1.00 SPG, 0.29 BPG

Alex Marcotullio, G, Glasgow Rocks, British Basketball League, Northwestern Class of 2013
Jan 10: 0 points on 0 of 2 shooting (0 of 2 3PT), three rebounds, four assists and one steal in a win over the Birmingham Knights.

John Shurna, F, FIATC Mutua Joventut, Spanish Liga ACB, Northwestern Class of 2012
Jan 18: 11 points on 4 of 10 shooting (3 of 6 3PT), four rebounds, one steal and one assist in a loss to Cajasol Banca Civica.
Season Averages: 11.25 PPG (.405 FG%), 3.56 RPG, 0.44 APG, 0.75 SPG, 0.31 BPG

Player of the Week:
Reggie Hearn. Hearn scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals in a 119-118 overtime win over the Santa Cruz Warriors. Down 118-117, Hearn hit a layup with less then three seconds left, after the Stampede stole the inbounds, to win the game. Hearn shot 6 of 11 from the field including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc and 5 of 6 free throws. For the season Hearn is averaging 9.57 PPG, 5.00 RPG, 1.14 APG, 1.00 SPG and 0.29 BPG. Hearn went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft after walking on at Northwestern.

    Each week this winter quarter I recap how Northwestern alumni preform in their respective leagues. While Northwestern doesn’t have any basketball alums playing in the NBA, there are four playing overseas and one in the NBA D-League. This week one alum hit a game-winning layup with less than three seconds left to earn him player of the week honors.
