Northwestern has seven football alumni currently on NFL active rosters.
Here’s how they did this week in the NFL:
Offensive Players
Zach Strief, Offensive Tackle, New Orleans Saints (Class of 2006)
Started at offensive tackle in the Saints 26-20 loss to the New York Jets.
Defensive Players
Corey Wootton, Defensive End, Chicago Bears (Class of 2010):
Four tackles (3 solo), one sack, two tackles for a loss and one quarterback hit in the Bears 27-20 win over the Green Bay Packers.
Corbin Bryant, Defensive Tackle, Buffalo Bills (Class of 2010)
Served as backup defensive tackle in the Bills 23-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Barry Cofield, Nose Tackle, Washington Redskins (Class of 2006)
Two quarterback hits in the Redskins 30-24 win over the San Diego Chargers.
Nick Roach, Linebacker, Oakland Raiders (Class of 2007)
Six tackles (six solo), one tackle for loss, one sack and one quarterback hit in the Raiders 49-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Sherrick McManis, Cornerback, Chicago Bears (Class of 2010)
Served as reserve cornerback in the Bears 27-20 win over the Packers
Marquice Cole, Cornerback, New England Patriots (Class of 2007)
Four tackles (three solo) in the Patriots 55-31 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Northwestern NFL Player of the Week:
Corey Wootton. Wootton had four tackles (three solo), one sack, two tackles for a loss and one quarterback hit in the Bears 27-20 win over the Packers on Monday night. On the season, Wootton has 18 tackles (14 solo), two sacks, four run stuffs for 12 yards, one pass defended, one forced fumble and one interception. Wootton was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears with the 109th pick. Wootton has played in 38 games including two postseason games. For his career, Wootton has 54 tackles (40 solo), 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one pass defended, and four stuffs for 12 yards.
