Northwestern Pro Basketball Recap: Week of Jan. 28

WNUR’s Ari Ross (@aross50) recaps the past week and season so far for former Northwestern basketball players in the pros.
While Northwestern has no alumni playing in the NBA, there are five alums playing either in the NBA D-League or overseas.
Here’s how they performed this past week in their respective leagues:

Jan. 22: 7 points on 3 of 8 shoting (0 of 3 3PT), four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in a 125-120 loss to Rio Grande Valley.
Jan. 23: 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting (0 of 3 3PT), three rebounds, two steals and one block in a 102-101 loss to Austin.
Jan. 25: 12 points on 4 of 14 shooting (1 of 6 3PT), 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal in a 131-128 loss to the Tulsa 66ers.

Jan. 25: 10 points on 3 of 6 shooting (2 of 3 3PT), two rebounds and 3 assists in a 75-58 win over Cholet Basket.

John Shurna, F, FIATC Mutua Joventut, Spanish Liga ACB, Northwestern Class of 2012
Jan. 25: 14 points on 5 of 15 shooting (4 of 8 3PT), nine rebounds, one assist and one block in 1 85-69 loss to Valencia Basket.
Season Averages: 11.41 PPG (.399 FG%), 3.88 RPG, 0.47 APG, 0.71 SPG, 0.35 BPG
Game of the Week:
John Shurna. Shurna had 14 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one block in a 85-69 loss to Valencia Basket. Shurna shot 5 of 15 from the field and 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. For the season, Shurna is averaging 11.41 PPG and 3.88 RPG. Shurna wasn’t taken in the 2012 NBA Draft and, after playing with the New York Knicks in the preseason, became a free agent. Shurna then went overseas and played for Strasbourg IG last season. Shurna played for the Milwaukee Bucks in the Summer League this past offseason.
