Sammy Nettling and the Wildcats defeat Purdue 2-1

A pitcher’s battle at Sharon J Drysdale ended with the ‘Cats 5th straight win, taking the weekend series against the Purdue Boilermakers. The game deciding run came on a scorching HR from Sammy Nettling in the 4th, her 2nd of the weekend. Andrea DiPrima also recorded a RBI, driving in the speedster Sabrina Rabin, who was 2 for 2 on stolen bases for the day. As usual, Letourneau was dominant, getting out of numerous jams, and recording 7 Ks in 6 innings, with no earned runs, one unearned. She had some troubles with walks in the later innings, with 5 overall on the day, but she was able to do just enough to keep the ‘Cats in the lead, until Kristen Wood came in and closed it out in the top of the 7th. Wood avoided a debacle, and was able to get out of the inning with runners at first and second and record the save. The ‘Cats played against tough pitching in Lilly Fecho, pulling her second day of duty, who had 9 strikeouts on the day, a whopping 21 on the weekend. The ‘Cats improve to 18-11 on the season, 7-0 in the Big Ten, and look to sweep the weekend series tomorrow at noon.
