Rapolas Ivanauskas Commits to Northwestern

Rapolas Ivanauskas, a 6-foot-8 power foward from nearby Barrington, Illinois, has committed to Northwestern, a source told 247 Sports’ Luke Srudolski.

Ivanauskas is Chris Collins’ first commit from the class of 2016. He was recruited heavily by several Big Ten teams, and also received offers from Creighton, Iowa, and Purdue.

ESPN recruiting insider Jeff Goodman expects big things from Ivanauskas:

Ivanauskas was named to the Illinois Class 3A/4A second-team last season after averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds per game. He was born in Lithuania, and keeps the Wildcats’ Eastern European pipeline alive. Romanian Alex Olah returns for his senior season as the Wildcats’ all-time leading shot blocker.

Barrington High School is located only 29 miles from Welsh-Ryan Arena, as is St. Rita (Vic Law’s high school). Law’s signing and Ivanauskas’ commitment are both indications that Chris Collins is recruiting the Chicago area well.

Northwestern still has one scholarship available for next season, after Jordan Ash, Derek Pardon, and Aaron Falzon signed and Joey Van Zegeren transferred from Virginia Tech.
