Northwestern lands 4-star center Barret Benson

The question has finally been answered.
Chris Collins has landed the heir to Alex Olah in 4-star center Barret Benson. The 6-foot-9 Darien, IL, product committed to Northwestern Monday night, filling the potential gaping hole at center.

Benson ranks 156th nationally in 247Sports’s composite ranking, and he’s ranked as the fifth best player in Illinois. Since Collins also landed Rapolas Ivanauskas this spring, NU has commitments from two of the top five players in the state in the class of 2015.
Benson – who attends Hinsdale South High School – also had offers from Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Purdue, and Vanderbilt, among others. If Benson’s profile doesn’t make it obvious, here’s an indicator of how big this commitment is.

Outside Benson and Ivanauskas, Collins has one other commit in the 2016 class, three-star point guard Isiah Brown. There’s one more open scholarship in 2016, so Collins might not be done yet either.
