Lowry, Thorson Win Weekly Awards
For Northwestern, getting a big win in Lincoln and becoming bowl-eligible came with some individual recognition.
Dean Lowry was named conference Defensive Player of the Week, while Clayton Thorson won the league’s Freshman of the Week award.

After his monster game, Lowry is tied for the team lead with 10.5 tackles for loss and is third (behind defensive backs Nick VanHoose and Matt Harris) with four pass breakups.

Thorson led the Wildcats in passing and rushing this week, throwing for 177 yards and the go-ahead touchdown to Dan Vitale and adding 126 yards and a score on the ground.
It’s the second time this season the ‘Cats have doubled down on weekly awards. Thorson won Freshman of the Week and Anthony Walker earned Defensive Player of the Week after the team’s season-opening win over Stanford.
