Mertz, Robbins granted sixth year of eligibility

Northwestern lineman Shane Mertz and C.J. Robbins have both been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. Mertz, an offensive lineman, and Robbins, a defensive tackle, will be eligible to play for the Wildcats next season.

Mertz had started six games this season at guard. Robbins made eight starts this season registering 11 tackles (3 solo) and one pass breakup.
Both Mertz and Robbins played against Penn State on Saturday, so it’s unknown exactly what led to them being granted a sixth year of eligibility.
