Northwestern announced Law will have surgery to replace a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He is expected to recover in 4-6 months.
This comes after Law played 18 minutes in last week’s exhibition against Quincy, scoring 10 points and grabbing 5 rebounds.
Law averaged 7 points and 5 rebounds per game as a freshman, and was expected to start for this season’s Wildcats.
Law’s injury should mean more playing time for freshman sharpshooter Aaron Falzon and Law’s fellow sophomore Scottie Lindsey. Veterans Sanjay Lumpkin and Nathan Taphorn started last week’s exhibition, and both of them will see increased playing time as well.
Law will still have three years of eligibility remaining. He was rated 66th in ESPN’s list of top prospects in the class of 2014.
Northwestern opens their season Friday against UMass-Lowell.
