Northwestern’s regular season is now done. Following the beat-down of in-state “rival” Illinois for the HAT this past Saturday at a mostly empty Soldier Field, the Wildcats are 10-2 and can only wait to hear about their bowl future. Pat Fitzgerald’s team is probably on the outside-looking-in for the New Years’ Six bowls, but has a very good chance of still playing on New Years’ Day, whether that’s in the Outback Bowl or the Citrus Bowl.

Both of those bowls would pit Northwestern against a tough SEC team, which may not be great for a potential win but would be very good in terms of getting the Wildcats some more national exposure to fans and recruits alike. SEC country is vital for Northwestern to make inroads in terms of prospects, and if the Wildcats can make some noise against an LSU or an Ole Miss, maybe a blue-chipper who wants to head north puts Northwestern on his list.
