After claiming a share of the Big Ten title for the first time in program history, Northwestern women’s soccer will make a second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats will take on Kent State in the 1st round, the NCAA announced today. 

If the Wildcats win their first round clash, they will take on the winner of Notre Dame and SIU-Edwardsville in the 2nd round, at a site to be determined. The full bracket can be found here. 

The Golden Flashes finished the season 15-2-2, and were MAC champions, defeating Northern Illinois 1×0 to claim their spot in the NCAA Championship. The match will kick-off at 3 PM Saturday afternoon. WNUR will provide live coverage as part of Sportsathon 2016. 

Behind a stellar defense that conceded just 6 goals all season, the Wildcats won a share of the Big Ten regular season title for the first time in the program’s history. After a win on penalties against Nebraska in the Big Ten Quarterfinals, the ‘Cats fell to Rutgers in the Big Ten Semifinals, 1×0. That was just the second loss of the year for Northwestern. Both losses have come against Rutgers.

Last season, Northwestern qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. The Wildcats defeated Washington State 1×0 in the first round before falling to West Virginia 4×0 in the second round.
