Wildcats Earn Impressive Road Win

By Adam Braunstein

Led by 27 points from sophomore Lindsey Pulliam, Northwestern women’s basketball defeated No. 25 Indiana 75-69 Wednesday night. It was a much needed win for the ‘Cats, bringing their conference record back up to .500 and giving the team some much needed momentum following back-to-back one-possession losses against conference opponents.

Despite not connecting on any shots from deep, Pulliam dropped 27 points in 33 minutes on the floor. First-year Veronica Burton was also outstanding for the Wildcats, putting up 19 points and six rebounds in her 37 minutes of action.

While Indiana was the home team and came into the contest boasting a 15-2 record, Northwestern dominated from the beginning. The Wildcats jumped out to an 18-10 advantage in the first quarter, then won the second and third quarters as well.

The Hoosiers made a push in the fourth, but it was too little, too late. The difference in this game was rebounding. Led by Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah and her 11 rebounds, Northwestern won the rebounding battle 42-29.

If the ‘Cats can continue to dominate on the glass as they did last night against Indiana, they will be a very competitive team for the remainder of the season.

Next up for Northwestern is a home contest against Wisconsin Sunday at 3:30p.m. Sam Brief and Pat Timlin will be on the call for WNUR Sports.
