Women’s Basketball:
1/16: WIN vs. No. 25 Indiana, 75-69
1/20: Win vs. Wisconsin, 72-46
The Northwestern Women’s Basketball Team bounced back from a tough stretch (in which they lost two games by a total of four points) this week, going 2-0, including a road win over a ranked opponent.
Last Wednesday, the Wildcats traveled to Bloomington, Indiana, to take on a Hoosiers team that was holding on to the final spot in the AP Top 25 rankings. In perhaps Northwestern’s most impressive win of the year, the Wildcats never relinquished the lead after Jordan Hamilton’s jumper put them up 2-0 and at one point led by 18. Lindsey Pulliam scored a season-high 27, Veronica Burton hit five three-pointers and Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah had the 30th double-double of her career as the ‘Cats came away with a six-point victory.
NU continued their Big Ten play on Sunday, facing a Wisconsin team who had dropped four straight. Things wouldn’t get better for the Badgers at Welsh-Ryan Arena, as a second quarter in which they only scored two points doomed them in a game Northwestern would end up winning by 26. After an eight-point first-quarter deficit, the Wildcats finished the game on a prolonged 65-31 run, dominating all facets of the game. Pulliam and Kunaiyi-Akpanah again had standout games, leading Northwestern with 21 points each.
The Wildcats return to action on the road against Nebraska Thursday night.
