Baseball

2/23: vs. Duke L 5-4, L 23-8

2/24: vs. Duke W 5-3

The Wildcats traveled to Durham, North Carolina to take on the Duke Blue Devils in a three game series over the weekend. Northwestern struggled out of the gates, losing the first two games on Saturday by a combined score of 28-12. On Sunday, however, the ‘Cats picked up a 5-3 road win to avoid the series sweep. Quinn Lavelle pitched an excellent six innings for Northwestern, and first-year reliever Parker Hanks earned the Win. The team will continue its stretch of ACC opponents next weekend as they travel to Atlanta to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Lacrosse

2/24: vs. Syracuse L 15-14

2/25: vs. Canisius W 20-6

In a very close contest on Sunday, the lacrosse team fell to No. 7 Syracuse on the road 15-14. The game was tied 14-14 at the end of regulation, but Emily Hawryschuk won the game for ‘Cuse with an unassisted goal. Selena Lasota and Lauren Gilbert each scored two goals in the contest. The very next day the team traveled from Syracuse to Buffalo and defeated Canisius 20-6. Gilbert and Lasota combined for five goals in this one, as the Wildcats improved to 4-1 on the season.

Women’s Basketball

2/17: vs. Purdue L 61-58

2/21: vs. Nebraska L 71-64

The women’s basketball team played tight contests against Purdue and Nebraska this past week but fell just short in both games. One positive that Northwestern will look to build on as the season winds down is the dominant rebounding performances of Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah. In these two conference games, Pallas grabbed a combined 24 rebounds. The two losses drop the Wildcats’ conference record to an even .500, and they have the opportunity to get back above that line before the conference tournament as they play Indiana and Iowa to wrap up the season.
