Week 5 Injury Report: Mogus out, Igwebuike in vs. Minnesota

Northwestern escaped with a victory after Saturday’s battle with Ball State, but the Wildcats were unable to avoid the injury bug in doing so.

Four players are listed as “Out” for Saturday’s tilt vs. Minnesota, including starting offensive lineman Geoff Mogus and key defensive reserve Kyle Quiero.

Mogus and Quiero were injured during the Ball State game, as was backup superback Garrett Dickerson. This could mean more playing time for starter Dan Vitale on offense, but Vitale already played a whopping 77 snaps on Saturday. Offensive lineman Adam DePietro has been out since suffering an injury in the Eastern Illinois game.

Northwestern may be breathing a sigh of relief, however, as both offensive lineman Matt Frazier and safety Godwin Igwebuike are not listed.

Igwebuike is a key contributor on defense but left Saturday’s game in the first half with an undisclosed injury. His absence from the list means that he should be available to play against the Gophers. Frazier has yet to play in 2015 after dealing with a staph infection to begin the season. Safety Jared McGee should also be available to play after missing last week’s game.
